The Guilford Fund for Education is an auxilary group which raises money for the Guilford Schools. In February it hold a charity Spelling Bee and teams donate money to participate. Is this something that Newcomers would like to be a part of? is anyone out there willing to be on a 4 person team (3 participants 1 alternate?) What do you all think?
This is a great idea! It costs $225 to enter a team, $200 if you register prior to January 1st. And it is a fundraiser, so more money would be better. I may already be on a team for this week, otherwise I would say yes. If it doesn’t happen this year, next year, with more notice, we should definitely raise some funds and enter a team. It’s a great cause! And it would be funny. Maybe an email blast should sent out if you want this to happen this week!
The Guilford Bistro is one of my favorite restaurants – for either lunch or dinner. The wait staff is attentive, courteous, and professional, too. There are too many delicious dishes to choose a favorite. One of the best parts of the meal is the homemade bread! Both crusty and heavy, it is always satisfying and I find myself pushing the breadbasket away so I won’t fill up on it before the meal! The portions are large, so don’t even bother ordering an appetizer. If you do order “just a salad”, be prepared to share! Reservations are recommended on weekend evenings.
I really like the Stonehouse bar. It’s always warm and cozy when it’s cold outside. And the bartenders and clientele are very friendly. KC’s pub is fun too. A younger crowd with lots of sports on the tvs. Quattros makes great margaritas and has fantastic food. And for darts, pool, and cheap beer, Shep’s bar is great. And he keeps the microwave popcorn coming, mmmmmmm!
My favorite movies theatres are the Madison Theatre & the one in New Haven on Temple Street. They remind me of the Fairfield Community Theatre, which is where I lived before Guilford. The movies are about quality not blockbuster, and the atmosphere is intimate and cozy. Great for a date with your partner, friend(s), or even on your own to pass an afternoon away.
Only drawback to the one in New Haven is the hassle about parking, but that’s true if you go into New Haven for anything…
Our family favorite has to be Som Siam, the Thai restaurant just off The Green. We found this fabulous place long before we moved to Guilford, and it quickly became a favorite restaurant and another reason to bring us up to Guilford from Stamford or Darien before we moved here. The food is just GREAT, and it’s always a treat! We bring friends here whenever we have visitors.
My current Favorite Clothing Stores: If you want to find true designer clothing, check out my current favorite stores: Cinderella’s Attic in Guilford (women’s and childrens’ clothing and accessories), and Peonies in Centerbrook (women’s clothing and accessories). You cannot beat the quality, prices, and the customer service in these two places. Where else can you find virtually brand new fashions for a tiny fraction of the original cost and in a fun and creative atmosphere?
